MANKALA RULES BY NIGHT!


Night Playing in the Night of Museums

 

Saturday May18th 2013, 18-02h

Mancala is a board game played across Africa, Asia, North and South America. During the Night of Museums and as part of the awarded Mancala, Game of Thought exhibition, the Museum will organize mancala game playing by night in the MAA garden and exhibition space. The rules of the game are simple and quickly learnt, what is not easy is to WIN!

“MANCALA, GAME OF THOUGHT” RECEIVES THIS YEAR’S BEST EXHIBITION AWARD!

 

 

The National Committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums) as international organization of museums and museum professionals founded within UNESCO awards each year in the fields of extraordinary contributions and affirmation of museum activities. The award is given in five equal categories: curator of the year, project of the year, publication of the year, museum of the year and finally the life achievement award.

The "MANCALA, GAME OF THOUGHT” exhibition by Ivana Vojt has received the honorary Project of the Year Award.

GUIDED TOUR THROUGH THE "MANCALA, GAME OF THOUGHT" EXHIBITION

 

Sunday, May 26th, at 1pm

Ivana Vojt, "Mancala, Game of Thought" exhibition curator and author will walk you through the history of one of the oldest board games, share her experiences from travels to Africa - Cape Verde, instruct you in how to observe exhibited objects and teach you how to play mancala.

The guided tour entrance is free.

LET’S PLAY AT THE MUSEUM!

Thursday, 24 January at 18h,
and every Thursday from 18-20h

As part of the ongoing exhibition “Mancala, Game of Thought” The Museum of African Art in collaboration with the board game’s club “C22”, is organizing the Mancala Rules! program, which involves learning the rules of mancala. The program begins on Thursday, 24 January at 18h and will be held every Thursday from 18-20h at the Museum for the duration of the exhibition.
